Why Australia asks for a Canadian police certificate

For skilled migration, partner, work and many other Australian visas, the Department of Home Affairs requires a police certificate from each country you spent 12 months or more in over the last 10 years. If that includes Canada, you’ll need a Canadian RCMP fingerprint-based certificate — the only internationally recognized Canadian police check. Name-only checks are not accepted for these purposes.
